Best living room carpets

Jul 1, 2021

We are always being asked what the best carpet is for a living room so here is a roundup of our current favourites.

Choosing a living room carpet really depends on your lifestyle, for example whether you have a young family, pets, whether it’s an occasional room or somewhere where you spend most of your time.

Choose a hardwearing rating

For a living room with high traffic you should choose a durable carpet, one that is rated as ‘heavy domestic’ or ‘extra heavy domestic’.

Our supplier spotlights include details about each range and each carpet’s durability rating.  You can check them out here:

Keeping living room carpets clean

Some carpets are particularly good at hiding stains, and many of our most popular ranges are ‘bleach cleanable’ which is a godsend if you have small children or pets.  A heather carpet has flecks of colour in it which are good at disguising marks and a great choice if you don’t want a pattern.  Plain carpets are more likely to show up dirt and stains, especially lighter colours.

Some of our carpets come with stain warranties, so do ask us about that if you’d like to find out more.

Living room carpet piles

The look of your living room carpet is governed by its pile.  From smooth cut piles to a soft, shaggy finish, the choice is huge.  You can find out more in our guide to the types of carpet pile, but there are definitely carpet types to avoid depending on who lives in your house.  For example, a loop pile is not a great idea if you have a cat as its claws will get stuck in the carpet!  A shagpile carpet feels luxurious but isn’t great for a busy, high traffic room.

Craig’s picks

These are Craig Sargeant’s suggested options for the different types of customers who need a new living room carpet.  These are a great starting point and, if you’d like to find out more, do speak to Craig as he will be able to confirm whether your chosen style would be suitable for your circumstances.
